With minimal supervision, performs a variety of moderately-difficult to difficult drafting/design assignments which require the application of advanced drafting and/or fundamental design techniques in accordance with company and industry standards and codes. Detailed instructions are provided by immediate supervisor for assignments involving introduction to basic design concepts.

EDUCATION

High school graduate with vocational/technical training in basic drafting technology (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• 15+ years of I&E Designer experience required.
• Some experience in a plant environment preferred.
• Experience with onsite support services.
• Proficient in use of AutoCAD software.
• Proficient in use of MS Office Products.
• TWIC card required

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preparation of detailed design drawings within his/her discipline, in accordance with engineering design and project requirements.
• Apply design guidelines and site specifications to prepare deliverables.
• Adapt to client drafting standards and specifications.
• Ability to write a scope and work plan.
• Ability to understand facility drawings, cable routing, cable tray routing, cable schedules, motor starter schematics, I/O list, loop diagrams, panel design, wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Acquire field data as necessary to prepare deliverables.
• Ability to specifying vendor instrument equipment and comprehend vendor manuals.
• Effectively communicate with engineering staff and other disciplines to ensure design criteria.
• Review project documents for scope, presentation and technical accuracy.
• Develop and incorporate design review red-lines
• Provide input for status of project deliverables with regards to man-hour forecasts, resource needs and schedule.
• Ability to work within time and schedule constraints to ensure project deliverables are completed within scope, budget, and quality standards

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally may visit an operating plant or construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
